bromoform
Chemistry
A halogenated organic compound (tribromomethane) found naturally in Asparagopsis taxiformis and A. armata seaweeds. Bromoform is a potent inhibitor of methyl-coenzyme M reductase (MCR), the terminal enzyme in methanogenesis, making Asparagopsis-based additives effective CH₄ reducers. However, bromoform is classified as a potential carcinogen, ocean environmental contaminant, and food safety concern under regulatory review globally. AENON's AenoFeed SC-1 is explicitly bromoform-free — it does not use Asparagopsis or any halogenated compound.
